Ambulocetus lived in warm, brackish water on a delta. Ambulocetus' hunting techniques were similar to those of a crocodile's hunting techniques today; because it was slow on land and in water, Ambulocetus had to ambush its prey. Ambulocetus would wait out of sight under the water, and then attempt to drag its prey down using its jaws.
Ambulocetus was about 12 feet long, and rather than paddling in a side-to-side motion, Ambulocetus moved in the iconic up-and-down fashion found in whales. Also, Ambulocetus had no external ears.
